Zeughauskeller...
I recently moved to Zurich from the San Francisco bay area. My husband is Swiss and he wanted to take me here to experience some traditional Swiss food in a historical building.
The place was packed, good sign right? We were lucky to get a table without a reservation. We were seated at a table with some other folks. They happened to be Americans too, which I thought was fun. Our waitress came over and the 1st words out of her mouth were for me to remove my purse from the back of the chair. I assume she felt it was in the way of the wait staff walking by. She then asked us for our order, which we had sat down for less than 2 minutes and had not even opened the menu. So we said we would order a beer 1st. Our waitress was so annoyed that I had to look at the menus for another minute before I could order my beer....how the heck could I know what they had for a selection, I am new to Zurich and totally foreign! When she returned with our beer she asked us to place our order. My husband in Swiss-German asked her to suggest some of the more popular dishes. She threw a fit!!!! Seriously, she got so p-ed off at him for what I assume was not being ready to order that she threw a fit! So we asked for the manager and he immediately moved us out of her section. What was disappointing the most was that the manager did not say a word to her about her behavior. We watched her continue to treat many other customers in her section the same way. I would recommend going in for a beer and an appetizer just to check out the old Armory building but then head over to Restaurant Swiss Chuchi at the Hotel Adler. You will love the food and the service at Swiss Chuchi much better.
